The first human settlements in this municipality date back no less than 150,000 years. That is the period from which date the nine human skulls found in the caves of El Tesoro, Los Tejones, El Encanto and Tapada

The beaches are busy during the summer, there are plenty of beach front cafes, selling fresh fried fish, snacks and refreshments. The sea-front promenade at Carihuela is renowned for its fresh fish restaurants; Sundays are especially busy with tourist going out for lunch and a stroll along the beach front.

Calle San Miguel is a pretty little street lined with small shops and cafes, it provides a glimpse of the old Torremolinos, as a small fishing village, and is worth the walk. There is an aqua park for children and a equestrian centre nearby which provides dressage displays, lessons and pony trekking in the hills.
