Costa Del Sol - Spain
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!
You are here > Home > Tourist > Health & Security

Health
Spain has an excellent health service, available to everybody, no matter where they might live. Foreign visitors from European Union may also use this free service.

Between private and public health facilities in Costa del Sol, there are 23 hospitals, 114 health centres, 530 pharmacies and a wide range of ambulance services.  As a result qualified medical personnel can see everybody wherever they are on the coast or in the interior.

I case of emergency, call 061 immediately, or 112 which is the European emergency number and which will be answered 24 hours of the day.

Security
There are two police forces operating in Costa del Sol, the Policia Nacional and the Guardia Civil forces. The National police is dressed in blue uniforms with red and yellow markings and the civil police wears green uniforms. The National Police phone number is 091.

There are also 13 fire stations and 36 Red Cross posts in Costa del Sol.

In practice, all these police forces work closely together in the interests of citizen security.  The number of police officers in tourist areas is increased in the high tourist seasons.  There is also Beach Police, with specific duties relating to the beaches and tourists.
