Another Spanish gem within easy distance from the Costa del Sol is enigmatic Ronda. This is one of Spain's oldest cities, one of the most charming and fascinating towns in Andalusia.

Ronda is famous for the plunging river gorge, which divides the medieval from the 18th century parts of the town. This gorge is known, as "El Tajo" Visitors love to peer down into the gorge, to see the waters of the River Guadalevín and the prison once housed in the stone bridge.

Ronda is very popular with day-trippers from the Costa del Sol, and has a wide range of cafes and restaurants. The older part of town still bears much of the Moorish influence of its past and has a traditional charm and languid atmosphere.

The El Mercadillo quarter is home to the Plaza de Toros, one of the oldest bullrings in Spain, and as such, Ronda has become the spiritual home of bullfighting. Ronda has breathtaking views and this enable visitors to enjoy scenery, which remains unchanged century after century.
