Nestled in the foothills of the mountain range, known as the ‘lungs of the Costa del Sol’, for its dense pine groves among which lies the picturesque white lime washed village of Mijas.

With its panoramic view over the Costa del Sol, narrow streets and friendly people, this is a visit you don't want to miss. The picturesque village became a haven for artists and foreigners, all attracted by the beauty of the village and the countryside, which surrounds it.

One of the most interesting structures in Mijas is the hermitage of El Puerto, which can be seen just about everywhere in the village, and suitably enough, halfway up a mountain.

During the month of January, Mijas celebrates the festival of San Anton, which is observed with an open air party called "Romeria". There is a thriving arts and crafts movement in Mijas, particularly linen and wicker items and the locally made bread and honey is definitely worth trying.
