Whale & Dolphin watching
The Bay and Straits of Gibraltar have a large population of Whales and Dolphins. This is probably the best area in Europe for concentrated dolphin and whale sightings. It is believed that the Wales form this area are the largest, as indeed they are, in some cases growing to 120ft long and weighing up to 190 tons.

The Straits of Gibraltar is the only access between the Mediterranean Sea and the vast Atlantic Ocean, and at the narrowest point is less than nine miles wide. There is an excellent chance of seeing migrating whales in this area.

Dolphins leave this area to give birth and then returning to the Bay in summer to raise their young. Fed by two small rivers, the Bay of Algeciras is a natural nursery for dolphins, where dozens of young can be seen, especially during the summer months.

Fifteen species of cetaceans - whales, dolphins and porpoises - are to be found in Andalusian waters. Two of them, the Striped dolphin and the Harbour porpoise are officially considered in danger of extinction.
