Bullfighting
Bullfighting is certainly one of the best known, although at the same time one of the most controversial Spanish customs. In Andalusia, sacrificing bulls is a practice dating back to pre-historic times, in honour to the divine justice.
Bullfighting as we know it today, started in the village squares, and became formalised, with the building of the bullring. A bullfight event has a particular sequence: the entrance of the bull, the picador, the banderilleros, and finally the matador.
This Fiesta would not exist without the Toro Bravo, a species of bull of an archaically race that is only found in Spain.
Ronda has the oldest bullring in Spain. It hosts the famous Goyesque Fair in early September. Some bullrings also house bullfighting museums.
