Banks and currency:
The Spanish currency is the euro, which came into use on the 1 March 2002. Euro coins are the 1, 2, 3, 5, 20-cent piece & the 1 & 2-euro piece and the euro notes are the 5, 20, 50, 100, 200 & 500-euro notes.
There are a large number of banks in Costa del Sol and foreign currency exchanges is normally done in here or at ‘cajas de ahorros’. There are authorised exchange offices in important tourist areas that are open outside banking hours and this makes the exchange of foreign currency very easy and efficient.
